So they sell what they call a “Sprouting Glass” for growing e.g. mung bean sprouts etc. in my local garden market. Basically, that gadget is not much more than a glass jar with a slotted lid and an attached stand. I think you could easily make one yourself, but it was only 5 bucks and I liked the idea, so I really didn’t care.
The Instructions say the following (see figure 2):
- Add a tablespoon or so of seeds into the jar, fill with water and shake to clean them. Then drain through the slotted lid and fill up again halfway. Let sit for ten hours overnight to soak the seeds thoroughly and make them germinate more easily.
- Next day, shake cautiously, drain again and place on a tray top side down at an angle on its post. Water can drain off and air can circulate. Repeat the soaking and draining process twice a day.
- Depending on the type of sprouts you’re growing, you can harvest after 4-6 days.
My SO likes fresh homegrown veggies, so the thing sits in my windowsill right now and I’m courious about how it’ll work out.
