It’s harvesting time for the pear tree in my munich garden and I got some really beautiful specimens. Now what to to do with it? I’m not a sweet-toothed guy at all but my wife likes vitamin kicks from self grown fruit very much, so, to preserve them I made her some pear sauce. There are a lot of cool recipes for pear-/apple sauce on the internet, but my girl likes it the simple and natural way, so here’s a very basic formula.

Ingredients:

1 kg pears, deseeded and peeled
1 lemon, juiced
80 ml water

Optional, depending on the sweetness of the pears:

2-3 tbsp Zucker
1 dash cinnamon

Method:

Wash and peel the pears, then deseed and cut them into approximately 1 inch pieces. Place in a large enough pot and add lemon juice, water and (optionally) sugar. Stir thoroughly.

Bring this to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover and let simmer slowly, stirring often until the pieces are soft and easy to mush. Add small amounts of water in case the sauce begins to burn at the bottom.

In the meantime, sterilize enough glass jars and lids. Store upside down until used.

Lastly, stir in an (optional) dash of cinnamon and mix with an immersion blender or a simple potato masher 🙂 While still hot, transfer to glass jars immediately and close tightly.
