We had a really plentiful harvest of pears this year, so I took some of them to make my own liqueur. Here’s how:
– 500g of fruit (pears, in my case), cut into chunks
– 250g rock sugar
– 750 ml alcohol (I used simple Vodka)
– a wide-necked bottle
And this is what you do:
Essentially, it is to add 250g sugar and 0.75 l of strong alcohol to each 500g of fruit, this is the basic liqueur-recipe. Add everything to your bottle, stir thoroughly and seal tight. You can hone this with basically whatever you want: Chili, Coffee beans, Ginger, Cloves, Vanilla, Cinnamon… you name it. Just try several batches and experiment with your favourite flavours.
Store this in a cool and dark place for 4-8 weeks, depending on the hardness of your fruit – the harder, the longer. Then strain through a fine sieve, or better a cloth. The shelf life is several years due to the high alcohol-content.
