They had some wood bbq planks on sale at the hardware store, so of course I had to snatch at the offer. I want to make some flame grilled salmon finnish style (“Loimulohi“) and I’m not willing to spend money on an overpriced plank-holding-contraption. So I had to come up with my own and this here is my shameless copy:
Shrimp, Egg and Scallion Chow Mein
Another quick, yet delicious dish that I’ve been making for years now. It’s a chinese / asian staple dish, easy to make and always satisfying. Some time ago, a chinese(?) person told me to try adding shiaoxing cooking wine (which I didn’t think about on myself and which is, unfortunately, not so easy to get here).
As I always want to to cook as “original” as I can, of course I had to try that: Much better! Here’s how:
Home Cured “Lox”
The latest batch of home cured salmon is ready and half of it is already gone. I love that stuff! My sister in law will come over these days and hopefully bring some blinis (she makes the original russian ones), so everything will be eaten up by at the latest this friday 🙂
I don’t know if my recipe is in any form “original” or “authentic”, I just know it’s delicious. Here’s how to make your own:
Farcydes Top 5 Recipes 2020
Another year is almost over – and not the easiest one for us all. I had a lot of time for cooking during quarantines and lockdowns, so here are my Top 5 Recipes of 2020. I’d appreciate if you give them a try, enjoy and let me know how they worked out for you! Let’s start:
Nice to Know: AC/DC Symbolism
Got myself a (fairly simple) multimeter for the northern germany refuge lately.
I wonder if I will eventually arrive at a point in my life when I’ve memorized these two simple symbols without having to look them up. Every. Single. Time. 🙂
Edit: Here’s a good explanation on how multimeters work (german language – sorry).
Broccoli-Potato-Cream-Soup
Tasty and warming soup on a cold winter’s day evening. I love it! Another recipe:
A New Cold Smoke Generator
I am in the northern germany refuge right now (which I appreciate so very much!) and to my astonishment I realized that I don’t have a cold smoke generator up here… what a shame. So I made one from the materials I had lying around here and it seems to work just fine. I’m planning on smoking some salmon the next days (which somebody promised me to deliver), and I hope it’ll meet my requirements. Here’s the summary.
